Alcohol

Traditional Macedonian hospitality is closely connected with local food and drinks. The most traditional alcoholic drink is rakija, a fruit brandy most commonly made from grapes and often served before meals or during celebrations.

North Macedonia is also known for its local wines, many of which offer excellent quality and value. Beer is widely available as well, with Skopsko and Zlaten Dab being among the most popular local brands. Craft beer has also become increasingly popular in recent years.

Ohrid is generally considered a safe destination for travelers. Violent crime is very rare, especially in tourist areas and Ohrid Old Town. As with any destination, visitors should still take normal precautions regarding personal belongings in crowded areas.
